Staying Clean and Healthy Before Problems Begin

Exams & Cleanings

Regular brushing and flossing, along with visiting your dentist for a comprehensive dental exam and cleaning, is essential in order to maintain good dental health. Additionally, many general health problems can affect your dental health and should be monitored. The American Dental Association recommends that you visit your dentist every six months to ensure your teeth stay healthy and your smile stays beautiful.

Additionally, dental exams and cleanings are necessary to diagnose and fix small problems before they become bigger problems. Did you know that by the time a patient feels pain in a tooth, it generally means that the cavity has penetrated deep into the tooth, where the nerve resides, and then repairing the issue becomes more complicated.

Fluoride Treatment

Teeth are composed of minerals. The mineralized tooth structure is constantly reforming throughout the day, depending on our diet. Fluoride enhances these minerals by keeping the molecules more tightly bound together and less prone to breaking apart. Topical fluoride treatment is effective in protecting teeth and preventing cavities.

Dental Sealants

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are thin, light-cured resin coatings that are applied to the chewing surfaces on the back teeth to help protect against tooth decay and cavities. The process is quick, painless, and can last for several years with proper care. Dental sealants are a great option for children and adults who are at a higher risk of developing cavities.

Radiographs (X-rays)

Dental x-rays are an important tool for diagnosing and treating oral health problems. These images provide a detailed look at the inside of the teeth and jaw, allowing the dentist to identify issues such as cavities, tooth decay, and impacted teeth. Dental x-rays are safe, quick, and an essential part of comprehensive dental care.

Oral Cancer Screenings

Early detection is the key to treating cancer. Oral cancer is a devastating disease when detected in its later stages. Late stage treatment usually involves major facial surgery. Therefore, it is important to see your dentist regularly so that dangerous oral lesions can be detected at an early, more readily treatable stage. Fortunately, most oral “sores” or “lesions” are not harmful. But a small number are dangerous, and if not identified early, may progress to a more advanced stage. Regular dental checkups, which include an examination of the entire mouth, are essential in the early detection of both cancerous and precancerous conditions. A person may have a dangerous oral lesion and not be aware of it.
